Wiz Khalifa is the hottest breakthrough emcee of 2010. According to MTV

Hard work does pay off I guess. Wiz Khalifa has been Grindin for about 5 years now, and it’s paid off cause he’s being recognized by MTV as the hottest breakthrough artist of 2010, and he didn’t beat out any slouches either. With some of the names out today that’s a pretty big deal, and let’s you know that this is definitely someone to keep your eye on now, and in the near future……..

After four weeks and more than 200,000 votes, MTV officially name indie Pittsburgh rapper Wiz Khalifa their “Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010,” beating out some 19 others in a poll ran on MTVNews.com.

Wiz beat out the likes of Nicki Minaj, J. Cole, Travis Porter, Big Sean, Curren$y, Freddie Gibbs and Diggy Simmons.

“It’s a great thing to be recognized on that level, and really just by my fans,” Wiz said after hearing about the win. “That award right there, I feel it was real special to me, because I feel like my whole career has just been based off my fans. My fans just really came through and they just pushed me over.”

The rapper broke onto the scene back in 2005 with his debut mixtape, Prince of the City: Welcome to Pistolvania. From there, he landed a “Show and Prove” feature in XXL and was declared an “artist to watch” from Rolling Stone magazine.

His buzz grew and eventually Wiz inked a deal with Warner Bros. Records and released the techno-laced single, “Say Yeah,” sampling the popular Alice Deejay smash “Better Off Alone.”

Despite the success of the single, his album was delayed several times, so Wiz finally parted ways with Warner and took matters into his own hands. He began releasing mixtapes through his own label and began building a buzz big enough to tour on a regular basis. Here he is today.

Wiz’s most recent release is a mixtape titled Kush and Orange Juice Download it over at MixtapePass.com.
